Family Home, Clifton
THIS DWELLING WAS ARRANGED ON SPLIT LEVELS AND WAS REIMAGINED FOR MODERN FAMILY LIVING WHILE RETAINING HERITAGE FEATURES.
This house is typical of Bristol in being arranged on multiple levels, with the addition of the rear rooms all being staggered. The kitchen was moved up a level, so it was near the entrance to the house, and a wall removed to allow for a dramatic split-level kitchen dining room. New steel doors to three sides of the entrance hallway and a new oversized rooflight brought natural light deeper into the home. Transforming the entrance experience and improving connectivity.
A new alternative entrance was introduced to the lower ground floor level at the front with a boot room, for after those muddy walks. This level also supports the guest suite and cinema room.
The upper floors were reimagined to be perfectly balanced for a family of 4 with a new ensuite, dressing room to the principal bedroom and dedicated laundry.
The client was keen to embrace energy efficiency and renewable technology. The building incorporates slim-lime double glazing in traditional sash timber frames, cork lime internal plaster, air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels to the roof, underfloor heating and a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system.
