cabin in the woods

project roundup:

client: Urban Creation

project team: Clever Space Construction

project brief: Construction of two, two-storey residential apartments to the rear of 54–56 Park Street, forming Phase 2 of the development.

objectives:

  • Respond to Site Constraints: Design and construct within a compact backland site with restricted access.

  • Minimise Disruption: Adopt a construction approach that reduces programme time and limits impact on residents occupying Phase 1.

  • Efficient Delivery: Utilise timber construction and off-site fabrication to streamline the build process.

  • Create a Secluded Setting: Deliver high-quality homes that maximise privacy and outlook towards the adjacent woodland.

This phase of the development introduces two contemporary apartments set behind the main frontage, carefully positioned to overlook a small wooded area.

The constrained nature of the site and limited access informed both the design and construction strategy. A timber frame solution, incorporating off-site manufactured elements, was selected to accelerate delivery and reduce on-site disruption.

Working closely with the contractor and timber supplier, the scheme has been developed to balance practical buildability with a strong design intent. The result is a pair of compact, well-considered homes that transform an underused plot into a quiet, tucked-away residential setting with a clear connection to the surrounding landscape.
